Whether you’re seeking assistance with service dog training, sport/protection dog training, group classes, or stay and train programs, we have the expertise and resources to help you and your canine companion succeed.

Sport/protection training

Our sport/protection dog training program caters to enthusiasts who seek to elevate their canine companions to the pinnacle of athleticism, obedience, and protective instincts. We offer specialized training for a variety of sports and protection disciplines to meet your individual needs whether that be to prepare for an upcoming trial or to develop a dog for personal protection. Here is what you can expect from our Sport/Protection Dog Training:

Initial assessment

During the initial assessment a trainer will evaluate your dog to see where their current skill levels are so that they can develop a training plan that progresses them towards your goals. At this initial assessment the trainer will ask you what your goals are with your dog such as what sport you are trying to compete in or if you are looking to build your dog up as a personal protection dog. After the initial assessment we will develop a customized training plan for you and your dog to set you on the right path to achieve your goals with your dog.

Right emotional state

Sport and protection training is not as simple as just teaching a dog to bite a sleeve or bark on command. With all the dogs we train we pay special attention to the dog’s emotional state while doing this kind of work. The dog needs to have the right emotion and intensity behind their behavior to achieve optimal results and truly shine. A lot of time will be spent solely on this one piece of the puzzle due to the significance it has on the other aspects of both sport and protection training.

Gripping behaviors

Many dogs struggle with gripping issues at one point or another when doing any kind of bite training whether that be weak shallow grips or mouthing on the equipment. We are focused on making sure that we work through these gripping issues in a way that plays to the dog’s genetic strengths rather than trying to alter their natural preferred method of fighting.

Working through pressure

Teaching a dog to engage a decoy or assailant even when threatened is paramount to their success both on the trial field or in a real-life scenario. Our training builds dogs up to the point where no amount of pressure placed on the dog will make them fail to complete the task that is at hand.

Targeting

Whether you want the dog to target a specific piece of equipment or part of the body for sport training or want to teach your dog to ignore equipment and focus on the decoy for personal protection we can assist you in your goals. Targeting is a crucial element in bite training that oftentimes goes untrained due to a lack of experience in this manner.

Obedience and Control

A strong foundation of obedience and control is essential for success in any sport or protection work. We’ll work on teaching your dog precise commands, reliable responses, and impeccable manners, both on and off-leash, to ensure maximum control in high-stakes situations.

Handler Education

In addition to training your dog, we provide comprehensive handler education to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in sport and protection training. You’ll learn about training principles, handling techniques, rules and regulations of your chosen sport, and strategies for maximizing your dog’s potential.

Service dog training program

Our service dog training program is designed to empower individuals with disabilities by providing them with highly trained and reliable service dogs. We offer comprehensive training to meet their specific needs, whether it’s mobility assistance, medical alert, psychiatric support, or other specialized tasks. Our service dog training program includes skill development, public access training, handler education, and ongoing support to ensure a successful partnership. Here is what you can expect from our Service Dog Training Program:

Needs Assessment

Each service dog training journey begins with a thorough assessment of your individual needs, lifestyle, and requirements. We’ll work closely with you to understand your specific challenges, limitations, and goals, ensuring that we tailor the training program to meet your exact needs.

Service Dog Assessment

Based on the results of the needs assessment, we’ll see if your current dog is a suitable candidate for our program or assist you in selecting and training your own dog. Our team of experienced trainers will assess potential candidates for temperament, trainability, and suitability for service work, ensuring a successful match.

Specialized Training

Our service dog training program covers a wide range of specialized skills and tasks tailored to your specific needs and requirements. Depending on the type of assistance you require, your service dog will undergo training in tasks such as mobility assistance, medical alert, psychiatric support, retrieval tasks, and more.

Public Access Training

Service dogs must be well-behaved and reliable in public settings to perform their duties effectively. Our program includes extensive public access training, teaching your service dog to remain calm, focused, and obedient in various environments, including crowded places, public transportation, and busy streets.

Handler Training

In addition to training the service dog, we provide comprehensive handler training to ensure that you can effectively work with and care for your service dog. You’ll learn essential handling techniques, commands, and strategies for maintaining your service dog’s skills, as well as understanding your rights and responsibilities as a service dog handler.

Ongoing Support

Our commitment to you and your service dog extends beyond the training period. We provide ongoing support, guidance, and resources to help you and your service dog succeed in your partnership, including follow-up sessions, refresher training, and access to a supportive community of service dog handlers.

Certification and Documentation

Upon successful completion of the training program, you’ll receive certification and documentation for your service dog, verifying their status as a trained assistance animal. This documentation will help ensure that you and your service dog are afforded the rights and accommodations necessary to support your independence and participation in daily activities. (Note that certification and documentation is not a requirement by the ADA, certification is done through the state of NC and is an optional certification for service dog teams)

Continuing EduCATION Group Classes

Our Continuing Education Group Class is designed exclusively for previous clients who have completed our training programs and wish to further reinforce their dog’s skills, maintain obedience, and strengthen their bond through ongoing training and socialization. Through structured exercises and training games, we’ll focus on maintaining and improving skills such as sit, stay, recall, loose leash walking, and more.

Advanced Training

In addition to reinforcing basic obedience skills, our group class may include advanced training exercises and activities to challenge your dog’s abilities and expand their repertoire. We’ll introduce new commands, tricks, and behaviors to keep your dog mentally stimulated and engaged in the learning process.

Our group class provides structured socialization opportunities in a controlled environment, allowing your dog to practice polite greetings, play with other dogs, and navigate various social situations.

Distraction Training

Training in real-world environments with distractions is crucial for maintaining reliable obedience in everyday situations. We’ll incorporate distractions such as noises, objects, and other dogs into training exercises to help your dog remain focused and responsive, even amidst distractions.

Handler Education and Support

Our group class isn’t just about training your dog—it’s also about empowering you as a handler. We’ll provide ongoing education, guidance, and support to help you understand your dog’s behavior, refine your handling skills, and troubleshoot any training challenges you may encounter.

This comprehensive program provides a comfortable and enriching environment for your dog, coupled with personalized training sessions to enhance their skills and behaviors. Here’s an overview of what you can expect from our Stay and Train program:

Boarding with the Trainer

Your dog will stay in a safe, comfortable, and supervised environment under the care of experienced trainers who understand their needs and preferences. Our facility provides spacious accommodations, regular exercise, and attentive care to ensure your dog’s comfort and well-being throughout their stay.

Daily Training Sessions

During your dog’s stay, they will receive daily training sessions with our skilled trainers to work on obedience, manners, and any specific behaviors you’d like to address. Training sessions will focus on reinforcing existing skills, introducing new commands, and addressing any behavior challenges or areas for improvement.

Socialization and Enrichment

In addition to training sessions, your dog will have opportunities for socialization with other dogs and supervised playtime to keep them mentally and physically stimulated. We’ll incorporate enrichment activities and interactive play to provide mental challenges and prevent boredom.

All of our programs are one on one sessions between you and the trainer. Sessions are usually spaced one week apart from each other in order to allow time for you and your dog to practice what was taught during the session. Time between the sessions can be adjusted either shorter or longer depending on the speed at which students are progressing with the curriculum. Location of the sessions will be at your home or in a public venue.
